Swellinfo, Why the hell is it been so flat up here in the northeast/east coast for so long?!?! Is it the weather or just theres been no swell. Usually at this time we start to get some nice surf with the warm water before winter fills in :D

This is the lamest September I can remember in a long time... Generally September is usually one of the most consistent months due to active tropical activity, but this year there hasn't been a whole lot in our window. I always think October is the best East Coast month, so lets hope October will be our salvation this year.

October does seem to be more consistent than September, but we also get alot of big sloppy swells in Oct. Seems like Sept winds are usually more favorable in Jersey at least. Also, it starts getting dark too early in Oct to surf after work, uhg. Lets hope for a few clean weekend swells.

The lack of swells is sending me to the tropics for October.

You travel snob! Haha :p

I think a trip to Cali might have to be in store soon.

Chris, how does our favorite CR spots do in Oct/Nov? I'm looking to take my sister there, so surfing isn't the "top" reason, but you know...

hey Justine,

I haven't seen you out in the water in some time...

As for CR in Oct/Nov, I'd say in general the south swells usually aren't as big around that time of year, as the south pacific transitions into it's summer mode. But, regardless, its usually not that hard to find waves in costa.

Weather modification efforts by the military may be the cause?

Check that out...very interesting

Look up to the sky...this is going on today.

I don't think I buy that the military is using weather control as a strategic tactic, however I definitely wouldn't be surprised if they are doing a lot of research into it. Cloud seeding and weather control has been a topic that has been researched and has floated around for decades, mostly in assistance to crop yield.

The fact is that as humans, since the industrial revolution, we've been unconsciously influencing the weather by every black top we pave, every building that goes up, and every tree that comes down. So, perhaps the possibility of consciously influencing the weather might not be such a bad thing (if used for the right reasons).

Overall, nature balances itself out to maintain itself, so it seems like risky business.

Thanks for the link TommyP...

Weather modification experiments have been around since the 50s and experiments were used to control the weather during the Vietnam war. Fleets of planes were equipped with cloud monitors instead of missiles to track the weather. The code-name for the operation was Popeye. In 1978 the U.N. banned the use of weather control in war in what is called the EnMod Convention.

In 1961 the Navy began seeding Hurricane Esther to dissipate its strength in what was called Project Stormfury.

They need to look into controlling the waves. Forget dredging and bulldozing beach replenishment. Just create a sick swell that carries sand to the beach... Word.

If it is the spot I think you are talking about, it is good whenever there are S swells so OCT is still real good but it starts to die down in Nov. Not sure when the last time you went was but it is harder to get to now too, longer walk, but still worth it of course...

It is REALLY rainy then, that is why I am heading somewhere else in Oct. The swells are also hit and miss due to the lack of Southern Hemi's. I couldn't decide until last weekend where to go then I booked and I am heading out 10/6.

I'm heading for CR over Thanksgiving. Not the most consistent time of year, but plane tickets were cheap and I get two days off work for free. It can't be any worse than this september has been.

Right on, thanks everyone for your advice.

Yeah, i know Micah...I haven't surfed a real wave since at least May!!!

I've been busy this Summer trying to secure my acceptance into the Nursing-RN program for next semester (January).

In the meantime, I have just a few months to save $ and travel, travel, travel.

See you in the water next swell (pray hard!)
