Micah,

I can't remember the last time we've had either a nor'easter or north swell. Is La Nina's affect on the weather pattern causing this?

definitely haven't had a NE sweel in SNC for a really long time...

Your right,

We've had a very consistent pattern of southerly wind swell events from January through the beginning of March, and I cant recall either any significant NE events as of late.

Off the top of my head, I"m really not sure what to attribute this pattern to. Its certainly one of the best winters of surf we've had here in the Mid Atlantic in a long time, so were hoping this continues into the spring. You guys in the Southeast have had some consistent stuff as well.

I don't think we can say its because of the la nina influence, but i may have to take a look into it further. It would be nice to correlate it to something, so we can get some heads up into future winter patterns.

Your right, it has definitly been one of the most consistent winters in a very long time. In SNC, we haven't had a really big swell but consistent (at least for here) good head high stuff.

I could be way off, but typical north swells come from either a big high pressure situated well in the northeast and the second is when we have a low push off our coast and travels north. It seems like the latter is getting less common as they always seems to pus off the coast north of Hatteras giving us no swell.

OK, if you look at the 160+ hour forecast in this site, it looks like we may actually get a north swell with a decent fetch. I am sure it will change 20 times by then...

looks like more of a NW flow, not your average northeaster type system.
