That board is sick. Bet its got great versitility, works with a lot of conditions, can't go wrong? The thickness and fat nose is a nice combo. Did you order straight from Santa Cruz, how much did you drop?

Dude ive only had it for like 3 days and there has been no surf on LBI, sucks! Wanna see what she can do! I bought it from a local surf shop for $600 welllll worth it man. I was getting jaded on my piranha and this board is very similar but better! IMO. Its great for mush to overhead + grab one man if your funds allow you to do so.

How do you know how it performs if its been flat? Especially overhead, come on dummy.

because i demo'ed the board earlier this year DUDE. i finally saved enough money this year to buy it. and like i said its super similar to my rusty piranha shape, width, concave and thickness wise. the pumpkin is a rounded pin and my piranha is a swallow so we shall see.

What are the dims?
I have heard they are nice boards and that Santa Cruz makes pretty sweet tufflite models, I would consider getting one vs. a RNF or something along those lines just because it seems like it could take more of a beating and being a mid level beginner I can still be rough on a board, especially in mushy, shore break conditions. I am excited to hear more about the board once the East Coast gets some swell again.

santa cruz is such a good company, i have a 5'5" g-deck.... you get a free fitted board bag, and glass fins... i'd say they're probably the best company for epoxy boards.

Def. dude. When i tried this board out i was so stoked man. I was kinda iffy at first being a loyal rusty rider but this board changed that super quick. All we need now is......Waves!

I'd say this board could be good for anyone, from beginner to pro status. Ill let you know how it holds up over time being that this is my first santa cruz. When i rode it earlier this year the feel of it was raaaad, super adaptable in alot of different conditions.

So you mean you tried one out, you didn't "demo" one, because if you actually KNEW how to surf well enought to get paid to demo product you'd know a rounded pin will perform nothing like a swallow tail.

In all fairness he only said it was similar "width, concave and thickness wise", he didn't say anything about the tail.

What about "Demo Days" that lots of board brands have when they are new(ish) (FireWire, Aviso) or a brand doing new shapes? I don't think you have to be a pro to do that. I was in San Diego this spring in a shop getting a wetsuit, the owner and I were talking about FireWire and he told me he a bunch of boards I could "demo". Now I am far from a pro, more like advancing beginner so I guess more than one person calls test driving a board doing a demo.
I am a pretty big soccer guy and Nike and Adidas also have demo tents at major events around the country with all amateur players. It is set up much like the above mentioned "Demo Days" where every new product is there in every size and you and test run it in a game to see if you like it. They take feed back and also hope to gain a customer, much like surf reps that give a demo board to a shop so they can let people try it out. I
For whatever reason you feel the need to talk junk to people online and e-thug it. That is another form of being a kook, you are just using a different venue than the beach to do it.

Right on, he actually mentioned that because they were different he would see how it goes, this leads me to believe he would feel a different tail on an otherwise similar shape would lead to different performance.

So, are all you kooks dating one another and "demo-ing" each other or what?

do you even surf???
at the shop i work at, we have an entire quiver of demo boards. everything from 5'4" lost RNFs to AVISOs, to 12' stand-up paddleboards..
all of them have DEMO sprayed on the bottom of them, and anyone is welcome to use them for a few days...
even your kook ass.

No, we just all posses something called common sense. It's not like you helpfully pointed out that a pin will preform different than a swallow. If you're gonna call somebody out on something you think you would read their post all the way through.
Back on track, I checked out the Pumpkin seed and it looks pretty sick. Looks good for some hurricane swell, if we ever get any:rolleyes:

its not chong's fault. he hasn't activated the left part of his brain yet. and i can assure you dude that i am no kook and def. do not feel the need to bash people over the internet for using a different vocabulary than i may be used to. my advice to you would be, try getting out of your house once and a while and talking to some girls and by girls i do not mean the life size doll hidden under your bed. on another note, took the board out in some knee high conditions and while i wish it was bigger i must say that this board will end up becoming one of my favorites.

Hi Guys,
i've read in this forum that a lot of you had some practical experience with the Pumpkin Seed. So maybe one of you could help me by my decision wether to buy this board or not.
I would say i am an intermediate surfer who can't surf every day because therefore I have to drive 2- 2,5 hours. But if there is some swell at the weekends i am there ( if my Girffriend allows it ;) ). What i am searching for is a board that fits most conditions (from hip- to overhead high, hollow reef or beachbreak). I think therefore this Board is a good solution.
I am 185 cm length weight 176 pounds foodsize 10 - 10,5. I thought about the 6'2 or 6'4 what do you think?

I just bought a new 6' 0" Santa Cruz Pumpkin Seed. I am 6 foot and 180-185 lbs. It seems like I am at the upper limit of the boards capacity (especially with wetsuit gear). The dude at the surf shop is about my size and he rides a 5' 10" Pumpkin Seed. I generally like smaller boards, but also am looking for something to glide through the flat spots and paddle well. Don't know if I got the right size.
Anyone have any insight into this issue? I'd like to hear from folks that have some experience with this board. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Surf ability/ experience plays in to it as well. If you shop around for boards on the internet a lot of sites will give you suggested dimensions based on height and weight or skill but it is a combination of both. My rocket fish ( not a pumpkin seed but I suspect similar deal wider and thicker than the normal shortboard) is rated on the website for 165-175 lbs person...I am 193 lbs. These are general guidelines set up based on an "average" (not that good) surfer. Slates I am not but I fit in the above average category and thus my ability/ experience can make up for lost board volume (you can see this to an extreme in alot of pros boards and the dimensions they ride). I'm sure any one of the shappers that frequent these forums would tell you the same thing...but if you already paid for it isn't it too late to worry about what others think about the dimensions? You've got some time before putting on the rubber to shred it out and form your own opinion and probably surprise yourself with your comfort level on some smaller dimensions than you are used to (or at least thats what it sounds like to me)
ps Let me know how you like the board...I am looking at getting one myself

oops! Never-mind the smaller dimensions remark. Went back and re-read what you wrote...guess that's what I get for stopping mid response to go do something else then coming back to finish it. If your looking for glide over flat spots... what are your standard short board dimensions and fish dimensions?

Thanks Smithfield! I have always ridden PU boards. I like to ride my 6' 1" Lost if the waves permit (doesn't do much in weak mush) and have a 6' 6" when it gets a few feet overhead. I've been riding since I was young, but am now a few hours inland (Washington DC). I am looking for a board that will get into waves pretty easy and have some drive through the flat spots, yet also handle well. It's tough to have it all, but this board sounds like it is pretty versatile.
The weight range for "experts" on the SC website is 165-180, so I am definitely at the max of that range. But in epoxy it's hard to bury a rail if you go to thick. Dimensions on the boards are the same in the 6' 0" and the 6' 2", except the 6' 2" is 2.37 thick and the 6' 0" is 2.25. Doesn't really seem like there will be too much difference. I don't know - I think I might go a little small, because who wants to surf small much anyway...
