Width-duck diving

I bravely took the longboard out on the sunday 8 footers. Needless to say Im now going to order something smaller. Im all about a retro fish but I think the width would be bad for getting under the waves. At the same time Ive got to have something thatll give me a good paddle. Im 5' 7" 130 pounds.

You guys think a summer fish is a better call? I'm thinking about a glass 6' x 18 3/4" x 2 1/4"

I am in the same perdicament...im about 385sh lbs and ride a board that is wide and also 4 1/2- 5 1/2 inches thick...for me when i need to get under the wave...and its over chest high, its all about bailing the board and diving under. :)

hahaha how can you even surf, especially waves under chest high, if you weigh 385, you would just sink you fatty!

5' 7" 130 pounds is quite small and light. A fish style board is usually riden 2-4 inches shorter than your typcal short board, but since you don't have one of those, I would recommend a fish with the following dimensions:

5'-5" x 18" x 2.25". For comparison, I am 5' 10" & 190 lbs and I ride a 5'-9" x 18.5" x 2.5" with big 'ol boxey rails.


You can always go to reputable surf shop and have the board dude dial you into one.

i am 5 11 and about 145...i have a 5' 6 retro fish and can get under very easily

I'm 6'1" 205# and ride a 5'11 retro fish that is pretty darn fat and wide. I have no problem sinking it and duck diving is no problem. I am however kinda big across the chest and arms so I have a lot of force up top to do it. Duck diving is more timing and method then it is shear strength so you should be able to dive any board within reason as long as it is sized appropriately. I love my fish by the way and have a hard time putting it down even when the conditions call for something else. Good luck!

Thanks bro, its something i should probably work on. I think im leaning towards a summer fish, slightly better for carving.
