There was a thread a little while back about night surfing.
Tonight would be a good time to do it, as the front will be moving offshore this evening as the swell peaks.

Sharks have an extremely good sense of smell.

I was actually talking about the waves... cause if its a new moon you won't see a thing.

tiny sliver...going towards new moon tuesday. Gonna need more natural lighting than that.

Current moon phase is a waning crescent, so not going to be a whole lot of light out there tonight. I've done some night surfing sessions and amount of moonlight makes all the difference in the world...I personally like a 'fuller' moon than this to surf on, but given how fast this swell is going to fall back, might be worth charging it anyways...

ive been wondering this for a little while now, how densely populuted is northeast waters by sharks, specifically around ny/nj region? and how come there arent more... are there just not as many seals here as, say San Fransisco? I know that there are shark sightings here in the northeast, but they dont seem as frequent as those in places with comprable water temperatures such as Northern California.

We have a good amount of sharks in the area, mostly threshers and brown sharks in close to shore. Get off a couple miles and the mako's(spring-fall),tiger,blue, and the infamous JAWS are around in the winter. Have seen a 300+ mako freejump 12 miles off AC when fishing for mahi mahi around some lobster pots.
The red bull nightrider contest in AC was pretty cool to watch, probaly could of been pulled off just from the casino lights.

I've surfed in night time on a medium sized swell (3-4 ft), but never on a solid swell. I think it would have to be pretty well lighted to charge solid ones.

Anyone considered getting together with 4 or 5 other guys that have 4X4's, going on the drive on beach, and lighting it up with their high beams?

They already have them....there like $4000. I just don't got the coins for them.
$4000 wont do, there's got to be a more affordable solution.

These are cool but you would need and head harness. Or you could just duck tape it to your head:D

me and my bros kind of do that except we have our girls sit on the beach with those 5,000 or plus lights and have them shine it out on the lineup and one light will follow us while were on the wave so we know were we are going. plus the peir we surf next to has some flood lights shining off it onto the ocean but we just like having the extra lighting.
