Who are the most experienced and "best" shortboard shapers in the Wilmington/Wrightsville area. One who can guide someone and help decide what kind of board to shape because I've never ordered a custom board and I wouldn't know exact dimensions, rocker, concaves, and what-not to get.

Will might do some shortboard stuff, but yes he is mainly a hybrid/long/fun shaper. Heard nothing but good things about yearwood, seen some of his shapes over at Wrightsville glassing and they look pretty good. As far as performance shortboards, SOD and Raynor will steer you the right way!!

I have a Proline (7'6" short board for a fat ass) from Mike Paul and a Perfection (9'0" originally shaped for Tony Sylvagni) from Kelly Richards and I can say that both are top notch boards. I'd recommend either.

yeah perfections are also i good ive heard good stuff about them as well as all the others. but just go around a nd look at some models the different shapers have. bnut it also depends on if you want a shortboarda fish all that stuff palys a big role in getting a custom surfboard.
I ordered a board from Dave Endress over a year ago. I don't know what level your surfing is at, or what your riding now, but I had him make me a custom quad and it's magical. Over the years I've ordered boards from shapers on both coasts from fishes to big guns. I can't stress enough the relationship you develop with a shaper to tune your equipment. Though I've had some good boards, Dave was the first shaper to really listen to my concerns and created a board that blew me away. He taught nearly every other shaper in the area what they know and in my opinion, he's the best. Not only do I recommend him as a custom shaper, but I can assure you that my next board will be a Pride.

Man, you can like stencil it and spray-paint. But I hear Blue Ridge Surfboards does a very good glassing job on his boards and is awesome at board art (www.blueridgesurfboards.com) but I don't know much of his boards performance-wise.
On the other hand, you can buy some paint pens and I'll draw whatever you like on your board, just make sure you seal it right.

I've been surfing since the beginning of this June. I started through a week of Surf Camp where we used longboards (not sure what size). After that, I got a 6'4 NSP Fish in which I learned how to ride the line and turn. After a month or two I traded it in for an 8' Gary Wilson custom (custom-made for someone else) where I am currently at. I am pretty confident and feel comfortable in the head high range (depending on conditions) though I still can't really do any maneuvers ("real" tricks) yet and I want to buy a board so I'll be able to learn them.
I've heard nothing but good for Pride.

WBsurfer- If you want some graphics on a board you already own just have an artistic friend do it up with acrylic paint pens and seal it with a clear acrylic. If you want a new board with some sick color work check out Austin surfboards in VA Beach. They do some of the sickest swirls and patterns ive ever seen. I like the faux wood swirl that Blue Ridge does as well, but ive never seen one of their boards first hand.
There are a couple of other good shapers in the AB/EI area as well. Check out Carl Heverly, Chris Jones, or Dave Dixon. They are all top notch.

Ok, I ended up going with a 6'4 Gary Wilson! There's a pic in my album. We figured that I would have more room to grow into a 6'4 plus it'll be slightly more foam for the transition down from the 8 footer.

nice man but my quiver is alittle bit better with a 6'1" al merrick flyer epoxy. and a 7'6" i think my quiver owns you. but good choice on getting an epoxy. but the epoxy will break and have fun getting use to the fish.

I got a custom shaped by Jimmy Keith almost two months ago. First, let me tell you that Jimmy is really great to work with and will help you with bringing your ideas or wants to life in a board. He will sit down with you for as long as it takes and help you fine tune your board. I stopped by throughout the process as well and he was nothing but helpful and showed me how everything was done. He fined tuned the board perfectly based on what I told him and what I wanted. The end result was way better than I imagined. I designed my graphics and brought the idea to Jimmy's art guy. Again, the end result blew me away. Plus,
no offense to anyone around here in terms of being amazing shapers, but it my eyes, nobody can touch Jimmy and Green Room's Epoxy technology. Never delam, never yellow, strong as crap,, has flex, and is really light. That's just my two cents. Again, I know all the shapers mentioned are great shapers, but this is just my opinion.

I am from Monmouth NJ however the boards that i ride here in the South Carolina and Wilminton have all been shaped by Todd Sudz of Island Inspired Surf Shop on hwy 544 in myrtle beach. He is a extreamly nice guy who will work with you on any board you need. I have had a few retro Fish's made by him and couldnt be happier with what i had paid for . he has a customer for life with me. Go check out his work

it seems this thread has run its course but i'll throw my vote in for jimmy keith. i've got a 5'9 quad bullet shaped by him, and that thing flies. also the epoxy is so friggen tough, the board is over a year old and still looks great. jimmy's even coming out with his own line of non greenroom boards to sell in other shops. yeah greenroom boards! yeah jimmy!

so is jimmy still gonna be making boards for green room surf shop or is he just gonna start making them for what ever shop wants to carry his boards?

I'm pretty sure Jimmy will still shape greenroom boards...but he's been developing new technology/epoxy/resins that other shops want, especially out west (where there are a zillion shops)...probably the same shapes under different brands, like benny b riding a mayhem shape even though there might be a wrv sticker on it

It's actually been a year since I posted that. Now I'm riding a 5'11 Green Room Whiskey Fish and loving life! :D
Dave is awesome. Nearly everyone around here started with him. He made me a magic board and I'll go back to him for the next one. I hear AJW does some nice **** too. good luck
