wax question

hey i just started trying to surf and go to holden beach when i do. well when i went to go get some wax the guy at the surf shop handed me cool sex wax and said i should use that as the base, and then handed me sticky bumps tropical and said to use that as the top. i was reading somewhere that cool wax would melt off real easy in water temps as warm as holden beach's temps. so my question is did that guy not know what he was talking about and give me the wrong kind of wax? or was he correct?

Sticky Bumps? Sounds more like an unfortunate condition that strikes in the genitals than a surf wax.

Use sticky bumps tropical all over in the summer time. In the winter use stay with tropical as a base and put the cool/cold on. Sex Wax is nothing but a cool name, sticky bumps is the way to go.

Stay away from itchy, red, oozy bumps.... Use protection.

this is what i do. i use a blue sticker sex wax as basecoat then i use either sticky bumps, sex wax red label or that matunas red label as a top coat.

This what I do and i get good, sticky bumps:

1. use Sex Wax Quick Humps Red label or Blue Label (depending on water temp), I find that Quick Humps makes the best bumps.

2. However, Quick Humps isn't exactly that sticky, so I use Sticky Bumps, or OAM tropical as a topcoat - mainly for the stickiness.

In the winter, my topcoat will be of cooler-temp wax, I may use Quick Humps Green label as a basecoat in the dead of winter, but you're wearing booties anyways, so you could probably use Red Label from fall - spring, and Blue through the summer when the water is above 80

what i use is sticky bumps base coat and then magma cause magma is REALLY sticky but also wears off quick

Thanks, I could post a video, but It wouldn't be till I wax the board again.

The trick is patience, after you get a good bottom layer stuck to the board, just keep rubbing the wax lightly in different directions. I use a "grid pattern" by rubbing wax horizontally all along the board, then vertically.

If you rub too hard, it will flatten out any bumps that are trying form, just remember it takes a while for bumps to form.

After that, I just rub on sticky bumps wax or whatever else I can find that's good and sticky (you don't need that much, just a good top sticky layer - you'll put on a new layer every time you go out, it's sorta temporary)

ok well i have a basecoat bar and then a warm tropical bar. so should i make the bumps with the basecoat bar and then put a thin coating of warm tropical over that? or should i just put a thin layer of basecoat on and then make the bumps using the warm tropical bar?

I like to make the bumps with the base coat, because it holds up better, and then the top, sticky coat is relatively thinner.

I use sticky bumps base coat, and then a top coat. I've use sticky bumps for years, but recently have been trying Magma and it has been working really well.

I second that palmers is definitely the way to go. All that other stuff is crap. Palmers can be tough to find around here for some reason though.
