I'm visiting my brother in NJ this fall and want to surf while I'm up there. He doesn't know anything about surfing so I can't ask him but, when does the water get uncomfortably cold? I surf year round in South Carolina in a 3/2 with booties and the water usually stays above 50 degrees. What temps should I expect in an August through October range?

Either trunks or a 3/2 and possibly Booties in late October.

I use a 3/2 in jersey till about the middle of november, when it gets uncomfortably cold, even with boots and gloves. I usually have boots on too in october, just b/c i have skinny feet, but if you surf with a 3/2 and boots year-round in south carolina, you may want to consider a 6 mil ...

Nah, Water temps drop into the mid-lower 50s in late October. Beginning of October and you should be able to trunk it when its in the 60s.

3/2 at the most through October. When you hit November, that is when you have to start adding rubber.

just like everyone else said, a 3/2 should be good excpet sometimes when it gets cold on some days but a long sleeve rash gard, boots and gloves seem to keep me warm until mid november
