I was out by the pipe at Long Branch today and the waves, while big, were breaking right on shore. The steep incline of the beach seems odd for a summer beach and seems to make surfing/bodyboarding tricky. It also seemed odd that no one else was out other than fishermen, given how huge the waves were this evening. This compared to OC last week, which, while smaller, seemed to break much further out, which was more conducive to surfing/BB and more crowded.
I'm not asking for any secrets, but is there an area that works better? Taking my truck from north Jersey down to Seaside/LBI is getting long+$$. PM's would also be appreciated if you don't want to post it here.
Is this incline normal for NJ beaches? When I was at school in MD they used to make fun of the "new-jersification" of beaches here due to sea walls/jettys, ect. instead of allowing natural turnover of barrier habitats, is this related?
