Myrtle Beach SC Bodyboarding??

I recently moved here from MD and used to bodyboard in NJ and Ocean City MD regularly (almost 20 years). So far down here I haven't seen anyone else bodyboarding. I saw a few contests that have bodyboard classes, does anyone compete? Does anyone down here bodyboard, and where do you ride?

I usually go to 48th off Ocean Blvd, or 65th off N. Ocean Blvd


to clarify, I don't mean boogieboarding on those dollar store kickboard POS's I mean with descent boards, and fins ("flippers" LOL)

Hey bro, The are about 2 or 3 ,maybe, includeing me. I used to live in cali and now here. Surfers here have no respect for bodyboarding. Therefore I have no respect for them.

I paddle out at springmaid pier, come paddle out sometime or shoot me a pm.

yea, I can see the lack of repect here (from surfers) I mean it's really backwards from what I'm used to in Ocean City MD the ratio was like 1:1 surfers/bodyboarders + general respect. The college looking types like to talk s#!t in the water but are a little quieter up on the beach :confused: I'm almost 30 I have no time for college kids talking BS let me just stick you in the mouthpiece once :p I think the surfers are jealous that we can ride the 1-2' chop/crap know as Myrtle Beach daily surf and they have to tan on the beach. Stop hating and just get a bodyboard already.

I bodyboard in NC and I'm definitely in the minority. I've met and talked to two other bodyboarders this year. Other years have gone by without even seeing another sponger.

Since I'm a middle-aged woman, none of the surfers really give me any crap out in the water, but I try to stay as far away from surfboards as I can just so I don't get hit by one or run over. Last year, I was paddling out sort of near a kid with a shortboard. I saw him duckdive a wave, so I ass-umed he knew what he was doing. Next wall of whitewater that came along, he let go of the board (no leash) and it came flying back and hit me in the arm. It drew blood and left a nasty, sore lump. You just can't assume that everybody who paddles out with a surfboard knows what they're doing.

First of all the reason "boogie"boarders are probably disliked is because surfers have to deal with enough "boogie"boarding tourist crowding the waters already not to mention the ones who try to be profesional about riding a "boogie"board f**cking up the entire line up. come out there with respect and dont f**k up the line by di**ing around on the inside and im sure u will be treated with the same oh yea and dont surf at kook places like 65th thats asking for drama

i dont think its a matter of liking spongers or not, if i see a group of overweight farmer taned fat dudes with pink $4 boogie boards im gona automatically assume im better at life in general then they are and will lay down the law especially when they are getting in the way in the coveted surf zones, however if i see someone in the water/line up with flippers (fins) chasing down waves and gettin flipped and flopped around i have no problem whatsoever sharing the water with you and or given u a high five when u catch a good one...justttt my opinion

It's hard to take seriously any surfer with an attitude in Myrtle Beach. I'll try not to judge because I don't know your situations, but unless you 're trapped there by circumstances beyond your control or you have the money and time to travel alot, surfing must not be your first priority. So to pretend that a few spongers are threatining the knee to thigh-high piss dribble you call swell is hilarious.

Anyways, further down south at Folly we are small crew of spongers and some unknowns too. We surf Washout, and the Pier, and some other spots too. We set up trips to Central America. We ride prone and dropknee. We ride Custom Xs, No.6s, Cartels, Es, and BZs. We do the ESA here and got the SC Governors Cup at the end of this month. We sponge in these divisions. The line up knows us, and we share a common respect with everyone. We bodyboard all year long, not just the summer months. Drop me a line if you in the Charleston area, and let your ride'n speak for you.

Aint nuthin wrong with farmers on vacation. they dont know any better....surf around them if your so good . otherwise find a spot where there is noone out and do your business. Better yet, **** the kids. Paddle out where you want, and let your surfing do the talking. If you deserve respect demand it, treat others like you would like to be treated, but if someone snakes you, snake them back. Eventually they will have to learn to live with you out in the line-up. You may end up in a few confrontations, but that's life. That is if you fell Myrtle Beach waves are worth fighting for. I know there are times to fight and times to walk away. For me it would be more about a matter of principle. I mean we are talking about Myttle Beach locals not DA HUI.

i have found that if you just turn to a fellow surfer and say DID YOU SEE THE SIZE OF THAT SHARK? most tourist will begin exiting the water.......FAST

I just moved to the MB area and tried bodyboarding a few times (with a good board and fins) at around 82nd ave. I have noticed maybe one or two surfers up there, but no other bodyboarders (except the ones that are obviously tourists). I would be interested in seeing other bodyboarders to see if I'm doing things correctly.

I originally got a bodyboard to try it out and get my sea legs, so to speak. Also because I heard the waves weren't consistently great for surfing. Most of my info about surf conditions I got from Surf City surf shop. (I think they were very nice there - also heard they give surf lessons... I may take them up on that)

I'm having trouble finding info about the best conditions for bodyboarding, and if there is a best time of year for good waves. Also, if I decide to try surfing, does anyone know of a good way to learn proper surf technique, or is it just best to get lessons?

I'm the guy who is pushing 60 that you see at springmaid usually in the morning, I respect the surfers and give them lots of room. I have never had any problems. With the small stuff you have no choice but catch the inside. I have found that durning the week is better, no so many kids in the water to run over. If you really want to boogie try Makapuu it will scare the hell out of you. See you Sat

It's not about the money considering a descent bodyboard w/ stringers runs $200+ then a leash and fins... your right into surfboard price territory. Not to mention; wether you surf or bodyboard, a trip to central america or HI would cost the same.

I ride am Empire Rising Bull (for now) and my roomates are both on Number 6's (icon goliathe, and Landlord remix contoured) really nice boards

Hopefully this weekend we get a nice little something out there. Last sunday was alot of fun, we went to 65th street and paddled out for about 4 hours. There was a descent crowd and no one seemed to mind the three of us out there. Anymore info on the SC governers cup would be excellent, I'd like to start entering events ASAP and plan on entering next years USBA pro at jenks in NJ.

hey dont dis 81st we always surf there. There are usually good waves there and not too many tourist we all share waves just dont swim out in front of us. about a month ago we were out in the line up for about a hour when all of the sudden boggie boarders swam out in front of us. we got pretty mad and where talking about how the waves were gonna smash him and that he was pretty dumb for being out there. so he paddled away. we share waves but dont abuse the right. have a good day guys and just share the waves.

hey peoples, so ive never been to myrtle beach, OC is my place, i'm 15 and i bodyboard. i not the best, but i do know how to ride correctly. i also am in the process of learning how to surf which is a whole different ball game for me. lol if anyone has any tips on the best/quietest places to go where i wont be bothered, i'd appreciate it.

Every sport has rules. Many rules are unspoken, so allow me to clarify. When I started out surfing 16 years ago I wish someone would have shown me the "right of way". You are more likely to enjoy the sport and your time in the water if you follow the rules. T

here is nothing wrong or aggressive about POLITELY telling someone the rules in the lineup. Don't be the punk that yells at someone for snaking or dropping in. Fun and safety is what is most important.

Thanks for the link, good info and pictures. I live in Charleston and surf out at Folly Beach, but we never go to any of the "surf spots". We go to a spot and there is hardly ever other surfers out there and very few people in the water, great place for newbie surfers like myself.
