although this is generally sound thinking it doen't apply to everyone. I never wanted to have kids, I always figured I was too selfish too much of a loner etc. Then my wife and I were surprised by baby boy. All I can say is he is the best thing that ever happened to me and the best thing I have done in my life. Kids will change the way you look at things for the better. It puts everything else into perspective. You won't turn into an angel overnight and there will be set backs, but you will never look at that 12 year old grom at your local break the same way again. Suddenly you will see him as someone elses child, someone that has has parents that are worried about him and that love him more than anything. It will make it harder to be angry when he paddles for a wave you have your heart set on.
I'd say if you're debating about it, DON'T have kids.
