yeah...i liked "Caught Inside". Written by a guy whos a Santa Cruz newbie, really bitten by the surf bug, making a real effort to ramp up his surfing and fit in, and trying just a little too hard like we all did. It helps that the author can actually write.

IMO, "Caught Inside" is way better than "Kook" which is kind of a similar story.

I took February 6th off and I'll be making the drive from Cape Cod to NYC... I cannot f*$#ing wait!

Oh - and as for Dan Duane and Caught Inside - he went on to write some pretty kickass stuff for Outside and Men's Journal. Last I knew, he was living in OB SF.

i've read some of duane's other stuff & it never really held my attention the way caught inside did. but that may have been more of a subject matter issue than a writing issue.

Went to the Charleston, SC event by Chris and it was pretty cool. I think the theater holds 400 plus and we had people standing. If you haven't read the book, like myself, it really sets the stage to want to read it.

Chris, great presentation. Wish we could have seen some of that footage you hint about.

Regarding Kook, being one myself (started a year and half ago at age 37) I enjoyed the read so will definitely look for Caught Inside.
