Well, I guess I consider myself lucky that my wife surfs as well. We have been on a bunch of trips together. But, my last trip was to PR and was solo. She was pregnant at the time and a massive swell was coming, and I felt the need to get one last trip under my belt before my daughter was born. She wasn't super excited, but understood.
married people are soooooo boring. u dudes need to grow some and begin making decisions for yourselves. does marriage really mean u sign away your personhood and someone thinks for u and plans ur vacations?
"can't u just surf another day we have a dinner date with the Petersons?"
cheers to any wife who "lets" their man take a surf trip or, even better, surfs herself and understands the importance of such. sounds to me like a few people on here could stand to watch "Fight Club" again. time to break the matriarchy. do we really need to buy new throw pillows?
Oh and 3 grand on a surf trip, dude, u could be gone 3 to 4 months in some locales.
waves and wives dont mix. take her to Vegas and get her a major shopping spree then going on surf trips solo or with friends won't wont be an issue.
I did a 2 week solo trip out to california and had a blast surfing. It was not cheap, but I could care less because it was an awesome experience. At first, I was little hesitate about doing a solo surf trip, but it was actually great because I did my own thing and didn't have to worry about others. The only thing that sucked was really having not too much to do at night without other people. Santa Cruz was awesome and pretty much always has waves somewhere. I started there and drove down to San Diego stopping in Huntington Beach and San Clemente on my way down. I got to surf some really cool spots and everyone I encountered were really cool. If I don't move there in the upcoming year, I'm definatly going to plan another trip to go. I really didn't get lucky and have epic waves, but there was something everyday to ride except the one day I was at Trestles. (figures). Fun trip man, I highly recommend it.
I just recently went on a trip without my girlfriend. This wasn't a surf trip, but it was a hiking and snowboarding trip. She doesn't snowboard, and she would probably die hiking the way we did. Regardless, I didnt invite her. Bad decision, I got **** for weeks and weeks leading up to the trip, not to mention tons of phone calls freaking out on me. good times
You should ask your wife if she would like to go to Florida, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, or California. Discuss finances and let her know you need the trip. Who knows, she may need a break as well. If she gets upset, ask her if she would like to arrange a trip for herself and maybe her friends some time in the coming year. Then decide how much money you would both need for these vacations and take it from there.
You could act very depressed, drop hints, make it look like her idea - "honey why you just take your boards and find some waves":) Or you could make up a story that you won a free trip for one to *******. Or you could take her with you.
