Yeah, not wanting your board to ding makes you a kook! Dinged boards are way cooler!
In fact, I am against all forms of bags, containers, and carrying devices. Here are a few examples:
1. I play golf without a bag. "Bungee cords keep my clubs organized and in tip-top shape!"
2. I cradle my groceries instead of putting them in one of the 500 re-usable bags I have at home. "Buy 3 jars of spaghetti sauce, break one for free!"
3. I carry my credit cards, ID, and cash loosely in my pockets or car cupholders. "I swear that twenty is around here somewhere..."
Well I don't put my shoes in a box between use because I use them everyday and I wouldnt bag my board after every use because I like to grab it and go, not struggle to unwrap it after the wax melted into the fabric of a bag. As far as dings are concerned I don't think I've ever dinged my board traveling to and from the surf. Any damage on my boards is from my dragging left knee and hitting something in the water. Boards are meant to be used and used up in my opinion (good excuse for a new one). I have seen people keep their boards like new by protecting them in bags etc but they are usually seasonal people or those who do a lot of different activites and surfing is just one of many. I would rather my board be like an old hat that is beat up and comfortable rather than an unused accessory that I carry around on display. When they are used up I sell them cheap and move on.
that product, eh, no thanks.
The topic of using a board bag = barney... i dont know about that one bro. I have like 6 boards and 2 bags. When I am about to strap one on the roof, I usually throw it in the appropriately sized bag as step 1. Why?
I don't have to worry about the straps crushing the rails, the leash blowing all around, it dripping wax onto the roof, other boards dripping / sticking to it, etc.
Also, I feel a lot better if a plain black board bag is sitting top of my car a a shopping center rather than an obviously nice and expensive surfboard.
On the beach, the board bag makes the ultimate platform if you need to change out of your wetsuit or take it off for a few minutes without lining it with sand from your feet. Your girl can throw her towl on top of it and take a nap.
After a session I can throw my stinky boots and wetsuit in the bag with the board instead of in my pretty car.
Hell, i can throw my shotgun in there and wait for some no-bag elitest to call me a barney. I mean, I conveniently brought this 6' long bag to put your body in!!!!
Bags are OK
Wow...this guy just got his @ss handed to him........LOL
you guys make me proud!:D
I'm with Lee on this one...I have a bag for every board I own.
No way am i sticking my board in my Jeep and getting wax all over the interior.
I'm pretty sure that doesn't make me a barney, and if it does, who the F cares.
I think your anti-bag stance makes you a barney. Who gives a crap if people put their boards in bags? What impact does this have on you?
BTW, although I use bags, this product doesn't make sense to me.
What about epoxy boards, wouldn't be a barney for covering them up in a real bag would you?
Well I never though it made someone a kook, it just showed that the board was not used regularly which usually means it belongs to someone who doesn't surf on a regular basis. On the up side I have seen guys walk down to the beach, board in bag, girlfriend in tow, that I had written off only to be surprised that were really good surfers. This has happened but not that often. I really do think that boards are like shoes and should be cared for, within reason, but nothing over the top. My car is covered in wax from a board that is in my truck most of the year sitting on my right shoulder ready to go. To each his own I guess, some people just like to keep their stuff as close to new as possible. It's the same personality that has an immaculate car that doesn't smell like a fermented urine filled wetsuit half the time and who changes the wax on their boards once every few weeks. That's cool if that's you but it's not me that's for sure.
