I ride both longboard and shortboard, but I honestly don't know what I'd do without a longboard and ride it more often than anything else by far. If you enjoy surfing, why would you want to be sitting and waiting around for 4'+ waves to go out? That would annoy me to absolutely no end.
Who the hell cares if some people use longboards as a crutch, anyway? They're having a good time, and personally I think that going out and doing what is fun for you and doesn't harm anyone else is pretty much immune to criticism. I mean, feel free to criticize it. I Just think that doing so is obtuse.
Besides, the insipidity of the whole "longboarders are kooks" platitude has really maxed out the scale. We've all heard it so many times and it doesn't become any truer the more it's said, so what's the point?
