Have you tried the craft / hobby stores? I use to get balsa wood at this craft / hobby store that sold little trains, tracks and such, I use to be an architect student and built model homes with it. That's the only place I was ever able to find it in my area, but that was years ago.Quote:

You should have some exotic wood suppliers or boat building material suppliers around VB, that is where I would look first as you will be better off getting the thickest and widest stock possible and just cut what you need from there. Usually exotic and hardwood dealers are independently owned by local folks. Or you could scoot down my way and hit up Anchor Hardwoods and Fitzgerald Wood Products--they're my steez.Quote:

What about using paulownia? I couldn't believe it but when I was scouting Craigslist a few weeks back I saw some for sale in balt washington region
looking for something outside of the surfing industry. IF it's already a "blank" or a "kit" then it's already like a grand. I want the raw trunks or rough sawed 4x4's. Local specialty shops had bass and some had balsa but in thin sheets. I researched bass wood and it would be good for a hollow board but I was intending to do an old school solid balsa one since it's going to be a log. Same delay with paulownia.

Hard to find woods, including turning/carving stock. Custom milling, wide belt sanding. New items: birdseye maple (heavy eye), 10ft. balsa wood for surfboards, small PCS. Balsa for crafts.

I think that they'll ship. It was pricey though, I think he dropped close to 600$ for just the lumber and that was with the old-buddy hook-up and throwin it in the back of the truck. He chambers his wood boards. Good luck. Paulowina sure is pretty wood too. I want to try one of those.
