Anyone here ridden a firewire baked potato? If so what size and response?
Haven't ridden the Baked Potato, got a Spitfire myself....check out the Firewire Forums....alot of info from people on there. http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/f/forum.php
i have ridden a potatonator and it was fun as hell. plus, you cant go wrong with pot references ;)
real cool, personally decided to go with a mini simmons quad instead of the potatonator just for costs reasons
idk if this is helpful bc you specifically asked about baked potato, but i had a potatonator and hated it bc I went too big...i was scared to go with the recommended size bc of how short it was so I got a 5'10 and it was a boat. i needed a 5'4 I'd guess. With the wide tails putting a set of Controller fins on it will make it come alive, the added lift really makes the wide tail block feel less sluggish. I know peeps hate on them but Ive been very happy with my FWs. The shapes are all solid and reproducable precisely, they list the volumes, and I can kitesurf with them too bc of how durable they are. good luck with your purchase, I second the advice to get on the FW forum TONS of good advice on there and definitely size accordingly (they have a pretty helpful volume calculator on their site, if you have never payed attention to that board measurement before its amazing) if you go too big it will feel slow/sticky. for what it's worth I ended up back on a 5'10 Dominator for my grovel board and I should have never left it... but alot of people like the Potatonator and Baked Potato in decent waves too not just for junk. i think they are ALL awesome boards for east coast you gotta have one or something like it.
btw for reference im 5'11" 180lbs
I got a 5'10" sweet potato and it is by far the best money I've ever spent. Im 6' and 215lbs and can't always surf the **** waves we get here in the dirty dirty but with the SP I can hang with the string beans on their little fishes. Made me stoked to surf again in all conditions!
had a 5'6 dominator, best board i've owned. had it for 2 years, put a crack on the deck and then the valve leaked water. Emailed firewire and they said it wasn't possible. It is what it is....
i too havent surfed the baked potato, but my sp is sick. i have a 6' and im 6'3 215-220 range. it seems a bit big and i assume 5'10 would be the sweet spot. i would love to get a spitfire and baked potato to have a solid lineup but the things are damn expensive
