Honeymoon in October
I'm getting married in October and my girl left the responsibility on planning the honeymoon up to me. She has no problem with me surfing every day and planning the trip accordingly. That being said, I don't want to be a douche and go somewhere with good waves and nothing else.
Right not the Maldives is on the top of my list. The resort at Lohi's looks sick and I can surf right there. That's something I really want. I'll take a few boat trips, but I want to be able to paddle out where we are staying. I saw the 4 Seasons looked real nice too.
Has anyone traveled over there? Or anywhere else you think may be a good trip. Any advice is much appreciated. I looking for romantic/luxury once in a lifetime type sh*t.
congrats on the wedding!
getting around in the maldives is a mission...nothing is easy. your choices are walk (around the island/resort), seaplane, or boat. i did the full boat trip thing there a few years ago, & it was an awesome experience. i'd do it again in a heartbeat. hopefully your wife-to-be doesn't mind lounging by the pool most of the day, b/c you're going to be in the water a LOT. the waves are so good...very dependent on wind direction, but if Lohi's is blown out, there are other waves in the area that should be ok due to slightly different angles. paddling from the resorts seemed like a ***** when i was there. most people staying on land were still shuttled out to the line up by boat; i never saw anyone do the full paddle.
as much as i'd love to go back, i'm not sure it would be my choice for a honeymoon. my fiancee's not the type to be content to sit around by the pool while i surf my brains out & then collapse from exhaustion & i'm not sure how easy/practical/accessible other activities are there. we compromised & are going to costa rica for our honeymoon in july...i'll be able to surf in the morning & evening & we can do stuff together during the day when/if the sea breeze cranks up...seems like there's a lot more to do there & it's easier to access then in the maldives.
in october, you're also pushing your limits on surf...once the summer monsoons wind down, the atolls become over run by divers...it's impossible to get a surf charter during the winter b/c they're all booked up w/ scuba guys.
Thanks dude... I had a lot of the same thoughts. She is cool with sitting on the beach, but it would be cool to have more to do that just dive and snorkel...
Travel is the other main issue. I'm a little worried to surprise her at the airport with a 20 hour flight...
Also considering Costa and Barbados. Both are easy and awesome... I just have my heart set on a "once in a lifetime" type trip... But maybe I'm being too selfish
Dude, you seem like a level-headed type of dude........
Don't get married, man. I'm not trying to harsh your buzz mellow, but I can't sit here and go, "Oh congratulations." I just can't do it.
People don't get along very well the more they are exposed to each other. The things people consider "cute" aboot each other actually grow to become the most annoying things on the planet.
Everyday,..........there he/she is.............arrrgghhhhh.........everyday. Older married couples, who have lasted, get this weird vibe going between them. Like, they have just resigned themselves to their partnership, and they just go with it. But there's no spark left anymore. Just two people who have decided they are going to tolerate sharing a bathroom with each other for the next God knows how many years.
And this tolerance I speak of only exists for people born before 1950. The younger generations just don't have it. Blame feminism but women don't "need" to be married anymore like they used to. So, that puts added pressures on the manfolk.
Individualism and isolation does a character good. Makes you tough....like Tuffskins Jeans. Plus, after marriage, I bet you'll hear, " You're going surfing again ??!!??" It will happen. People change once they get hitched.
Sign a pre-nup, dude. And for God's sakes don't have kids, man. Dude, there's like 7 billion people on this planet already.
I always answer the same thing, like a broken record, for whatever travel occasion:
My 2 cents, I love CR but October/November are your worst 2 months.
Congratulations to you and your bride and good luck!
sure thing! flight is BRUTAL. if you go ahead & do it, make sure to get your doc to prescribe some sleep aids for the flight. if it's packed, you'll be lucky to sleep at all. my flight home was full to the brim...easily the worst part of the trip, rubbing shoulders w/ an indian/arabian guy who hadn't showered in who knows how long. be careful of HOW you book your flight...singapore air will have you laying over in singapore for 20+ hours...jfk-hnl-sin-male...WAAAYYY too much trouble to get into to be there for that long. air emirates is the way to go...jfk-dubai-male. 17.5 hours total flight time. way easier, fewer changes to screw up.

Your honeymoon is a once in a lifetime trip. My wedding was super low key and it was still chaotic. We were so tired afterwards. Not too tired ; )
K'auai. Honeymooner's island. I've been going there since I was a little kid and I love it. October you'll have waves and the water will be warm. There's plenty to do together and it's not too far away. It's a beautiful place man. So much aloha and everyone's in love.
We had fun. Haven't been since then, maybe go back soon.
Thanks for the advice... Can't say I haven't heard "don't get married bro" a bunch... But what can I say. I got a good one (I know everyone thinks they do at one point) that makes me happy. I know it's not always easy, but nothing is. I'm psyched to get married
