Top five states for % of people owning guns:
1) Wyoming at 59.7%
2) Alaska at 57.8%
3) Montana at 57.7%
4) South Dakota at 56.6%
5) West Virginia at 55.4%
Mississippi is #6 at 55.3%. If you go by gun sales (background checks) it's a little different, but the top 10 is still dominated by non-south states. Here's the opinion piece: I've lived in 7 different states across the US including very rural Ohio (almost like the south), rural NY and Maine, and what I've learned is there are plenty of gun-crazy rednecks everywhere. No area of the country is any nuttier than another area. It comes down to man power and there are more non-south states than southern states.
Awesome discussion about nothing even close to surfing. I agree with PJB...the fact that this thread started as a gripe about flat conditions and went in this direction is fantastic and a testament to how bored we are without waves to ride. Not a lot to talk about so why not discuss the civil war??
PS - if it's cool with everyone I'd like to take credit for the civil war segment...it was my post at the top of pg. 2 that ignited a flame deep within Mr. Carter. I'm happy to help with any boredom remedies.
bush was stupid but at least its an ethos
Who's the ****ing nihilist here!?
how about we take blaster's rednecks and PBJ's gang bangers and ship em all over to iraq, afghanistan, etc. The locals will tear them apart but if we send enough it should end up with a stalemate that kills most everyone involved on both sides, gets rid of a lot of guns, reduces our population, raises the average iq, education and other positive measures of the US, helping our competitive standing vis a vis the rest of the developed and developing world. the only thing that doesnt help out is the wave situation
