Wow. A thread on swollen info that hasn't had a bunch of lame internet turds spewing hate and dumb inside jokes! Nice! I have been all over the world but haven't made it to Hawaii yet but just go homie! It will be a blast!
Haven't been but have a very good friend who pulled up stakes and moved there +10 years ago. She lived in Honolulu for a couple years and hated Oahu, nothing but meth heads/crime/tourists/18 yr old enlistees and natives who hate everyone who's not... Was going to bail and move back to the states then went for a weekend to Maui, fell in love with it, went back, packed up and moved there the next weekend and has been ever since. According to her this is what she imagined HI to be like. Might want to give Maui a look...FB pics all the time of surfing, SUPing, fishing, hiking, camping on the beach, etc...
Go Waianae young man..West side Oahu, bring your tent and portable Coleman. Live like all the others that planned to drop everything and move to Hawaii.
Sister went to University of Oahu for 3 years I visited 3 times for 2 weeks. 1) expensive 2) locals hate white people(exception if pretty girl) 3) Very localized and intense surf spots, even the "beginner" spots get dangerous when going off. On the other hand if your a very good surfer there was always waves when I was there. Flat on south shore, 7-10 on north shore, 3-6 on east side, 5-6 on west you get the point. Also there are many spots that A east coaster would surf that someone from Hawaii wouldn't even look at. I found a reef no one out with 3-4 (faces) and it was one of the best times I ever had. Just go for it
Side note: I felt localism in California was worse.
