Hi I have just recently went to a local surf shop and was told to get a 5' 10", 5 fin combo(Quad or Thruster fin setup), round nose fish. I am 5'3" and 130lbs. I usually surf anywhere from head to overhead high surf. I have been using a 6'4" short board and it wasn't responsive at all. I am an intermediate surfer who is looking for a more responsive board. Is this the board for me?

What are the dimensions for the 5'10 and the 6'4? I'm 5'7 at 150 and I ride a retro fish that is 5'6 X 20 X 2.5 and a quiet flight that is 6'1 X 18.25 X 2 1/8 (thumb tail). The wider the board the less responsive it is. Try out a variety of board and see which one you like best. Good luck and I hope that helped
i surf in the winter on long island. the fish is about 5'10"X19"X2 3/8". The 6'4"is about 19 " and 2 3/4." The 6'4" is a thruster setup while the fish is a 5 fin
RNF huh? I take it it's the Lost Round Nose Fish? go with the thruster set up over the quad set up (for the love of God dont use all 5) it'll keep you a little more loose in the tail. The reason the fish will prob be more responsive is that its shorter. In actuality (and because you're surfing such big waves) you should probably be using a shorter short rather than a fish (unless those same head highs you are riding are pure mush?) Check out a Lost SD2 or even a Lost Shark- both have the same short charectaristics you're used to, but have a little more thickness so you can plow through mush and solids alike and go shorter length.

Dont know if this will help, but i ride a 5'10 fish. If you want a classic fish go with the twin setup, this will generate some speed for you. As far as responsive, what do you mean? Do you want a board that you can turn and carve easier. This will not be the board for you. It is made to ride fast and have longer bottom and top turns (not a carving board). I have a 5'10 Quad Fish for sale. Only used it twice!!! Obviously it's in excellent condish. I was too tall and lanky to use it. It's a Larry Mayo (Florida shaper). Beautiful board. If interested, lemme know. I can snap some pics and send you the other specs.
