The first generation FW's had well documented lamination problems. A shop in the know, wont give you much as far as trade in on it. Most of the first gen's were blue or orange or had the pinline where the balsa rail meets the topsheet...
well if youve already repaired it and its been sealed i dont know what you can do. where are u from.
i love my firewire
and the board does take on a lot of water when there is a ding
my advice is to sand off the spot u sun-cured and suck out any water that could have gotten in then re-seal it up
i have a few suggestions. I would take it to the old chaunceys shop on 30th. me and my brother had the nose snap on our firewires and i buckled mine in half and had the board bubble from inside the foam which is unheard of. they did a amazing job repairing our boards and have a pretty good understanding of the weird construction of those boards so they may be able to offer some more advice to you. if you feel like doing it yourself, i would agree with what mtksurfer said. I would reopen the ding and let it drain for a couple of sunny days and even go as far as sucking all of the water out. you can check if its all drained, or atleast get a better estimate of how much water is in there, by taking your thumbs and putting them on both sides of the ding and pushing, this will force some of the water to come up outta the ding. i cant tell you if your situation is worth going through all this so thats why chaunceys may be able to help you a little more, but chances are considering how light firewires are that if it feels heavier and isnt riding the same, theyre probably some water still in there. let me know how everything turns out man, best of luck and atleast you got to get out sunday, im stuck at school in philly and couldnt make it back. its been haunting me all week looking at pics and sh*t. its killing me. saddest part about it is im coming back this weekend and the outlook is s h i t
