I've decided to start swimming
After surfing the overhead sets from Hannah it has come to my attention that I am not as strong of a swimmer as I thought I was. ECU has a rec center with a pool that I can use for free. I think I am going to start swimming several times a week while I can't be surfing. I don't know if it will build my strength or stamina, but it should at least keep me from losing the strength between weekends that I've built up over the summer.
Today I swam 10 laps, at total of 500yds. I was to the point where I was fatigued at the end of each 50yd lap and needed to stop to catch my breath. This also has to do with my asthma, but excuses don't matter when you are in the ocean, so I want to improve on this.
Swimming has helped me ..
I was slowing down in the paddling dept and getting winded easily ( 55 yrs old ). Now I leave the office at lunch and swimm 1000 yards or a little more every day. It only takes 30 minutes of actual swimming and resting combined. A real competitive swimmer would laugh at this. They go 5000 yards every morning. But what I am doing has made a big difference in my capability to paddle out and catch waves. I would recommend it for anyone of any age.
