Yes, the top of the line board "The Vapor" may be, the other boards are completely comparable. They have the most intense R&D department ever, and their boards have tons of technology put into them. They have been in the business a long time. It comes down to preference, but don't stay away from it because of the name. If they have a board you want, get it. No one will consider you a newbie for riding Burton, that's ridiculous. Just look at their team, and that should be enough proof. Saying that, Forum has made a huge come back, but I would stay away from their bindings. Buy what you like and don't worry about labels. Burton and other companies have boards for jibbing, etc, so just buy what you like.
If you're new to snowboarding check out the Burton Hero, its a rockered board with some serious flex, it's good for learning, allows you to initiate turns easily, and the flex is great for jibbing. Only downfall are the expensive EST bindings. There are plenty of other jibbing boards out there, Rome Agent, Stepchild JibStick, Salomon Sanchez, K2 WWW (rockered or not), Burton Twin or Hero, and others.
