Touche, Sunday had more makeable barrels, bowlier sections and less crowds. It should be pretty obvious by now that the east coast (with the exception of RI, and NE) does not hold big long period swell very well. From my experience, Nor'easters will produce much bigger/makeable surf in NJ than any hurricane swell. Its also nice b/c only the real-takers can manage the sketchy conditions - gusty offshore winds, bad currents and cold water etc.
Heres one swell two years ago that I still swear by. That day a couple NJ breaks held solid 10-12 faces with super long lefts. The only day I ever pulled out a 6'10 mini-gun in NJ and needed every bit of it. Drifted 30+ blocks north, parked the one car at the other end of town before paddling out. Hoping to see a repeat this year, El Nino years are known to produce more NE storms.:D
Yep, Noel was the best of the past two years.
Bill beat Danny hands down. Bill provided some long rides with punch and power where I was riding in Maryland and it was uncrowded where I went. Danny provided rather weak lines. Bill was unexpectedly good for being a long period swell in this area.
