I think that's good advice. True of anywhere except for maybe Costa Rica, which has plenty of places that'll have "your board".

You riding is the BEST BEST BEST - but it is really hard to learn how to do it. The interface is a bit complicated.

Best advice is just to paddle a bit further down the beach than everyone else and have fun! Take some lessons, relax, smile and enjoy. PR is a nice place to learn with the right equipment, attitude...
Really depends how much experience you have. I think you could be a frustrated surfer if you're not really that experience. You don't need to start on a longboard, but you could start on something...
