I would suggest going to a surf shop that sells bodyboards - not a dive shop - you want fins that are for bodysurfing/bodyboarding they are quite different from diving fins

I would think the problem with a larger board for a 5yr old would be the ability to turn it as he progresses - he likely would not have the weight to move it easily

I lived in Cocoa beach for 4 years - it's a good base to surf from since it's 1 hr north to new smyrna and 1hr south to sebastian inlet and some other really fun spots in between like spanish house...

it will be annoying when changing - but at least it wont be really cold
