I don't think using a "guide" really has anything to do with not having a "sac". And even if you use a "guide" you can still speak "spanish" to the locals.
I can vouch for them. I went there in August 2004 and had an absolute blast. Lance puts you on the fish and waves. It doesn't get any better than that. The cook Jimmy made awesome meals every night....
