I recently bought a rip curl online, based on their size chart,...
the biscuit has horribly thick rails, which would makes turns unbearably corky for me. It's also an incredibly thick board, so be careful not to get one so large/buoyant that you can't duck dive it....
it's called a "no paddle take-off" and I already covered this on the first page of this thread. Only works on steep/jacked up waves...still gotta paddle for everything else (unless you don't mind...
^so you're saying that kicking has it's time and place...which is not very often. Only doing it when your tail is already submerged in the waves bump/face sounds about right. Worked for Nat.
I...
on paper, it does seem like wasted motion. However, try putting your board in the water with just your hand on the tail pad and wiggling the tail from side to side - the fins will push against the...
forgot to say earlier that the "sideways paddling" I do also wriggles the board and fins, which slightly helps propel the board forward...kinda like pumping on a wave
anyway, yeah, not looking...
excellent thread. The video, on the other hand, was a bit over explained
Judging by that, kicking is a good habit to get into...but I haven't gotten into that habit...yet. However, I am in the...
ha, playa grande is exactly where I saw that poor Brazilian behavior, too. Never had any problems with ticos there - it was brazilians, an american ex-pat snaked me on purpose for no reason and some...
^^ yeah, what other brand fins are you talking about? Why would you keep that a secret? I do agree, though, QC on FCS PC fins are sketchy at best
I have a set GF M-5 and PC-5 in front of me...
In the 2 years I lived in charleston, I don't remember it getting horribly hot or as humid like other places in the south. I was actually surprised how consistently good the temps were; not too hot,...
idk, those griffins 5 fins look ridiculous. All the the rear fins are on the same line, so I don't see how the middle fin is going to make the board any more stable...it's just going to create more...
gotta agree, charleston is fantastic - the weather, the architecture, the foliage, food, etc is all there. I lived there for a couple of years (right before moving to south FL) and thought the surf...
brazilians: Overall, they yell a lot, drop in without priority and then ride the waves with ugly/sketchy style (even some of the wct brazilians surf with a crappy style. yeah, they can make air...
new york city?!...yeah, that's one of the world's premiere surf destinations. Don't understand what you get out of it, but your sounding like a huge troll and solidifying the northeast guido...
I didn't read any "smack" in DawnPatrolSUP's post and I don't blame him for not wanting to go all the way up to jersey just to surf your "superior" breaks.
Having lived in southeast FL for...
the best boards I've ever had custom made where when I didn't really say much to the shaper. All they really need to know is your height/weight, your age/paddling ability, where you surf and how you...
told'ya Absecon Inlet was going to be epic (pic# 22). Did anyone here score any of that?
this is gonna make a good surf spot/death trap:

oooh, we are easily offended. I didn't know there were reefs and urchins in New Jersey.
clueless cops, with a megaphone, calling people out of the water in long island...as people drop into blatantly perfect tubes in the background

water rarely gets above 60 deg where I surf (CA). I wear a 4/3 year round and only wear booties when it gets down to about 55 or less. At 60, the water may feel freezing at first, but you'll...
lol
...but, in their defense, some of the pics I've seen from this storm were legit double to triple overhead with heavy sideshore winds. Not so easy to paddle into those when your biggest board...
dealing with all that paddling and heavy slams (don't say you didn't get worked), I'm guessing most of you are, or will be, feeling like you've been hit by a bus...several times.

every couple of years someone gets eaten by a great white in Surf, CA. The place is very isolated - it sticks way out into the pacific and faces northwest, picking up the hugest swells the pacific...
