Taxes/Job/pension/municipal bonds
I'd go to school there though...
I know a bunch of people that have gone out there looking for work with no prior connects really, and they've made out fairly well. One for film production, ones in public relations, and some others.
I'd go for it if I had 15k
Come to ca then. I've been to hi and ca and I'm glad I stayed in ca. Hawaii is tropical and nice but regardless of what part of an island u r on, u will be driving a long way most of the year to other parts of an island. Job in ca are better. They pay more. A bedroom in a house in ob in san diego is like 600 bucks. The bus runs u to downtown in 10 minutes. In ca, swell of every directions come right to out doorstep. I never have to travel. It never gets flat. There is always a logable wave even in august
The weather is dope all year. The water never gets 80 but it never drops below 55.
And to all the crowd talk. I can surf alone almost anytime I want. There r tons of spots. Notice how in most of the pics of me that I post, its just me. No other people. All the spots r in the city of sd. So yeah, blacks is crowded, but I get the j reefs alone quite often. When 5 spots on the cliffs r going off, they r crowded. So I go to one of the other 12 reef breaks and surf alone with my friends.
If u always surf crowds in socal, u don't know where to look. Even our crappy spots r better than most so avoid lower trestles and u will love life.
I'm biased. But I moved out here with my wife, then girlfriend 9 years ago with less than 5 grand. Been living at the beach here ever sincep. It was actually pretty easy.
Good luck
For everyone commenting to move to Nica or further off the map, I think you're missing the point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the guy wants a regular life but with surfing as a major staple. He's not looking to be The Drifter. I'm only saying this because I feel like I'm very much in the same boat, first year out of school with a PR degree, but burdened with loans and less of cash flow, so I couldn't flat make the jump and pray (excuses excuses).
And Zach619, all of your commentary about making the SD jump is so damn inspiring, makes the whole thing seem tangible and not a pipe dream.
Go for it man....you dont want to look back and say what if....I'm tossing around the idea myself....but I'm looking into schools out there by santa cruz......it's expensive, but not much more than jersey....plus that place has swell a lot
DO IT.
Go man. You won't be sorry.
I agree completely. My plan throughout my college career was to move to CA as soon as I graduated. Then I met my current girlfriend and things changed...its still in the back of my mind sometimes, but I know shed never go and I wouldnt want to go without her. I cant help but wondering what it would be like though, I could have been out there for a year already.
I think this thread just convinced me to get the f*** outa here. Cali or So Am for me. How bout some good spots (on or off the grid) for still a beginner?
