Whats with grocery store vip cards?? If you give it any thought at all you realize how strange a situation this is. The cards are free to the public but must cost money for the store to have them made. All you have to do is fill out an application and you get a card and some nice discounts ($20 off last grocery bill) but for what. What does the store gain from them?? What kind of info about you and your family is contained in the bar code when they scan your vip card?? The card cost money for them, then they give them away and then give you major discounts if you let them scan it. Are they tracking us or selling our info?? I really don't get it!!
That's simple, the whole point of sales is to for you to buy things. By putting up some diso****s they still make money, granted a little less money, but you're also more likely to choose that store again.
I think a huge part of it is for tracking purchasing patterns and locational trends. When you swipe that card, it doesn't only track what you bought that was on sale, but it sends data for all of your purchases overall.
