I think not. Not ever. Supposedly laid back "real" surfers hate on sponges, SUP's, Longboards, skimboards, body surfers, wrong brand, too old, too young, not hip, wrong high school, doesnt live in mom's basement, doesnt get high or shoot heroin.

So with this type of prejudice in such a "laid back" culture someone who speaks a different language, has different colored skin, or has an abberent religion there is no chance for peace with non "laid back" culture aka KOOKs of America!

So what is the solution? Its clear to me... its NU-CLEAR!

Looks like you are letting someone ruine your Stoke and thats your own fault.

Plain and simple: gang culture, or primal tribal culture at its worse. "Laid back" is an oxymoron. Lot's of the world's worse people over the course of human history were "laid back."

Lets have the costco $129 surfboard discussion after the first summer swell. Those things are going to be dropping (in on you) from the sky like pearl harbor. Sorry bro, but im going to go ahead and apply a little preventative hate to that situation. Its like watching out for that guy in jeans and a carhart on the slopes. Stereotypes; based on reality.

"surfing isnt a group hug" If some kids punked you then you are hanging out at the wrong break and/or at the wrong time of day. Like Matt said, dont let people kill your stoke. If you are a new face (or an annoying old one) and your stinking things up, expect to hear about it. Thats part of the process in a crowd.

But... Surfing in crowds isn't necessarily part of the game. Its on you to take some initiative and find an uncrowded spot, and its not hard this time of year. I hate crowds. In the winter its easy, in the summer I have to get more creative, buts its always worth it. Hell, some of the places I surf you could be out on a raft constructed of sups and inflatable bananas and noone is around to call you a kook. Just saying...

Maybe ill market some "get over it" spray. I have a sick Don Henley song in mind for the commercial.
