Thread: Water Temps

    Water Temps

So I been following the water temps, I'm wondering when the water temps begin to start rising back up..

I only have a 4/3 mutant with hood, but I do have booties and gloves. I'm hoping the water will be back above 40 soon so I can get back out there. Or when do you guys hop back out in a 4/3?

Oh yeah, I live around the Rhode Island area.

    Thanks in advance!

well, this is the first time I've extended my surfing season into the winter.
I used my 4/3 with 5m gloves and boots up till about the end of nov/begining december.
I have just used my hyperflex 6/5/4 with 7m gloves and boots last weekend for the first time and I was super warm.

I guess I would be able to use the 4/3 sometime in the end of april begining of may?
I would like to hear more def. ans. myself on the subject.

my opinion you could prob use a 4/3 around 45 degrees and if its hot out and not windy maby less.

I have the same wetsuit - I surf all winter (in LI though) with 7mm gloves and 7mm drylock booties and am good for a 2 hour session. I'm sure a 6/5/4 would be much more comfortable but I get by.

  6. I don't get out of my 6/5/4 until late April in ny/nj. Some time in March i swap out my 7 mil mits for 5 mil finger gloves. Surfing in March in RI in a 4/3 sounds painful.

    winter water

I live on Long Island and this was my first year surfing all winter, i have a 5/4/3 drylock with 5mm boots and 3mill drylock gloves. so i was fine all winter.

my friend on the other hand had a 4/3 non drylock with 5mm drylock boots and 3mill drylock gloves, but because his suit wasnt dry lock he was getting water in them. what also helped him survive the cold was the use of a 3/2 hooded vest worn under the 4/3 wetsuit.

    hope that helps

You may be able to pick a few warm, sunny, no wind days at the end of April.
I go from my 6mil to 5 in April then to the 4mil at the end of May.

I only have a 3/2 now but want to get in the water this spring in MA, RI and Maybe So. NH. I have 5 MM boots and 3/2 hooded vest so I am trying to decide if my next suit should be a 4/3 or 5/4/3 (Hooded or not?).
