While having the water trapped in there could prolong the process, it only needs to flood one canal and not the other to cause nausea. The 3 options are to do nothing and wait for the water in the one ear warm up (longest fix), empty your ear canal of the water and wait for it to warm up (quicker) or flood the other ear drum (quickest).
worst feeling... but i take care of it instantly by putting my chin part of the suit over my upper lip, and blow air into my suit. causes a nice rumbling around the ears and shakes out all the water, you know your doing it right if it sound like a fart. i have the ripcurl f-bomb has a big chin strap as it is,,, making it real easy and effective.

fbomb hood is super suctiony and leaves my face with a circle tan.. mad embarssing, cant wait to shed layers soon
this doesnt pertain to wearing a hood, but since you guys brought up water in the ears, you know of any way to get trapped water out? and no, vagisil doesnt work. For the past few years everytime i surf i get water trapped in my ears and cant hear for sh$t. if i go out a few days in a row, forget about it.... they are clogged for days after. its usually better in the winter cuz only a small amount of water comes in contact with my ears and thats usally during a flush. but once the hood comes off thats when it gets bad. Ive tried hyrdrogen peroxide and some swimmers ear stuff and that hasnt seemed to work.
So, no one has mentioned ear plugs yet. I started wearing them when I read about surfer's ear. Rarely do I get water in my ears now. I haven't invested in anything fancy, just a pair of the standard yellow foam plugs.
read the bong thread before heading out
Seriously
I wear my hood so that the bottem of the face cutout is just below my botttem lip.. i may look like a kook doing that, but when i get any water in the hood i blow into the hood, the water comes out and even better the air is warm![]()
Doc's pro plugs!!! Never surf the winter without them! As far as water being trapped in the ear...ear candlng!!! It sounds scary but it's not and it really works. They sell them in health food stores and you can youtube how to do it. Hope this helps.
