No hood Friday... many duckdives and no ice cream headache. But a guy out with no gloves only lasted about 20 minutes.

yeah i believe it could be around 50. it was 50 by april 1st last year in monmouth county. it may have gone down a couple times after, but came back pretty quick. it seemed like it took forever to get to 65 though. i swore it would be 65 by mid may, but it took till the first week of june. it's been a decent spring, but last year we didn't have much of a spring. it was summer from st patty's day on or so it seemed. a few cool days here, and there.

When upwelling happens, 3 degrees in a day is nothing, 5+ is the norm. In the summer it will go from low 70's down to mid 60's overnight on a big south swell. This time of year the water can warm up pretty quick when the currents start shifting.

On Friday morning I went without the hood in Long Branch without a problem. Then I went down to Ortley in the evening and the longer paddle out was brutal. In Long Branch I was duck diving 1 maybe 2 waves max. In Ortley was a ducking 4 minimum. I was wishing I had the hood.
