As some of you know, I don't get to surf too frequently and really don't prefer waiting in lineups (I don't belong in one anyway, I still don't surf that well). Back in March I took a day trip and tried to surf around 20th st. That day had about waist/chest hollow surf, but it was breaking on knee deep water at best and I wasn't about to break my neck. I was at the beach this weekend (yesteday) which had some waist high conditions most of the day. Tried around fenwick area but nothing but shorebreak waves. Noticed these conditions at varous stop points I made all the way down to 1st street inlet. Drove up to I.R. jetty around 7am yesterday morning before trying at Fenwick area but noticed from the bridget that I.R. north was already lined up heavy at 7am, so I didn't want to further clog it up (or pay the entry fee to not even get to surf). So aside from driving way up to Henelopen or way down at Asseteague, is there anywhere safe to surf on the OC or Deleware beaches where I don't need to battle a crazy lineup or break my neck crashing onto wet sand? Not looking for someone to give away their "secret spot" just wondering in general if there are some spots that have some outward sandbars that have developed some or is it all shorebreak only now? I think I'm just going to go to Assateague where you can spread out some and forget OC until I get some better reports. I still don't get the 48th st. area. I check out the webcam daily and since the replenishment, I don't see any decent break there worthy of the crowd it seems to continue to draw.
