Does anyone have an opinion on a father being part of the judging process at a surf tournament while his son is also a competitor?

Does anyone have an opinion on a father being part of the judging process at a surf tournament while his son is also a competitor?
Dont see anything wrong with it unless is plays favorites with his son
the father definitely, without a doubt, shouldn't be a judge in his son's heats. Its probably fine for hime to judge other heats, but would need to be swapped out during his son's heats.
When I was studying karate in college, my instructor told a story about how he made a mistake in his kata (form). He was banging through it so hard and doing such a good job that none of the judges noticed. Once he finished the judges gave their score (all 9's) and his instructor stood up and said in Japanese/broken English "Minus point. He make mistake." This caused my instructor to lose the competition, but was the honorable thing to do. I follow the same philosophy. My son would not want me as a judge in his heat because I would be overly critical of his technique. Its better to lose with honor than to win in disgrace.
