    Surfing Assateague

Will someone please explain to me why people surfing complain about not being able to surf a miniscule area of lifeguarded beach when there is 37+ miles of beach?

because i think the guarded beach often has a good A-frame bar and it's also the closest to the parking lot and they are too lazy to explore the other 37 miles.

when did they 'shut it down'? I surfed most of Thursday there with no problems...by the time I left it was blown to sh!t anyway...

Because it makes no sense to close the guarded section off to surfers this time of year when no tourists are really swimming. Not to mention the guards probably wouldn't even let them swim out that far. Even OC beaches were open and there are a lot more tourist in the water there.

So Mr. 37 Mile+ why don't you take a walk down the beach so it won't be crowded for the rest of us.

It just takes one idiot that doesn't think it's necessary to wear a leash to hit a little kid in the head with their board that they lost control of... Im pretty positive that's why they do it. (which happened last weekend while I was there)
And yea anyway this time of year they modify the flagged off section at the beach.

yes - a few years back my board hit a cluless tourist - I was leashed up too - she was just hanging out right where the break was and I didnt see her.
the board hit her in her large chest.
It could have been worse and hit her her head...

Totally agree. We must be responsible for policing ourselves. Never really understood why some don't use a leash. Too Cool for School I guess.
