while little compton is a sick place to surf it isnt always "going off" according to brett, it needs the right swell and wind like any other spot, both little compton and newport have really good breaks but watch out for little compton these days, the cops are really enforcing the no parking rules at certain breaks, the summer is almost impossible there, newport will almost always be crowded and as usual respect the locals if you paddle out at ruggles, stop into waterbrothers and say hi to sid, check out narragansett and other south county spots when the swell heads more southeast, it gets really good down there when newport will be junk, just get a map and explore, thats really the key to finding good waves
yeah haha sorry i live north of the cape so to me "going off" is anything above 1-2 feet but more often than not little compton's got something because its very exposed and consistent. Give wishing wells a try some time though, you'll have no trouble with parking, and its free of course. The locals are kind as well. Nothing wrong with Newport either the crowds are just a little sketchy and it can get pretty aggressive out there.
Personally, I always liked Point Judith, outside of Narragansett. Great wave if you don't mind a few rocks. On the other side of the light house there is a short left that is a super fun ride, although it is pretty shallow and easy to rip fins off on the rocks.
