MD/DE this weekend -- Whaddya think?

Hey Everybody,

I'm new here -- been lurking for a while and decided to sign up. I moved to Baltimore from Los Angeles about six years ago and I more or less stopped surfing until this year when I decided that 2.5 hours wasn't too far to drive for the best feeling on earth. I ride a 9'8" Scott Anderson Josh Farberow I.

Anyway, I'm planning to be in Rehoboth this weekend for a bunch of relaxing, and hopefully a bit of surf, but I still am pretty green in terms of knowledge about spots, especially in DE.

I usually surf with the ponies, but since I'm staying in DE this weekend that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. Thanks for any help -- I know people don't usually like to dish about their spots, but I'm a nice guy and respectful in the water. Send me a PM if you'd like to help, and thanks!

ocean city will be more fun... Plus, there are 140 streets to choose from. DE can be really fickle, especially with smaller swells like this.

I tend to avoid OC-proper because of crowds, although that's just an assumption on my part. It really sucks to be so green reading the reports out here...

crowds shouldn't be a big problem in mid october with all beaches open to surf. wind will be blowing hard offshore, so surf opposite a tall building that might block the wind. surfing with the ponies is not a great idea saturday because the seagull century bike ride is going on and the island and roads to it are gonna be clogged with bicyclists.

take a few minutes and explore. you will find a spot that works to your liking if you are diligent.

Atlantic/Ocean city NJ could be about the same distance too -depending on your location and on the swell, you could pick the best spot... still having to drive 2.5 hrs...

With this little bit of swell, and the hard offshores, there wont be anything happening in Delaware. At all.

Crowds are not a factor in OCMD this time of year, there will be more of a shot at swell down there. With the longboard, Assateague is probably even a better bet.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like surfing oc. Every time I decide to surf there, I get closeouts and the water always seems 4-5 degrees colder.

SE swell + 2ft @ 8 sec + NW wind + longboard = Assateague

Plenty other options on a short board, not much for a crutch however.

If you're serious about catchin waves be at AI at dark thirty. You won't have to deal with the cyclists until you leave.

Or if you want cyclist free assateague, surf VA for another 35 min drive
