every couple of years someone gets eaten by a great white in Surf, CA. The place is very isolated - it sticks way out into the pacific and faces northwest, picking up the hugest swells the pacific can deliver. The waves are about 2-3 times bigger than the surrounding area and there's a very large, shark attracting rivermouth just to the north. It's also usually onshore, foggy, overcast and just downright scary...even without the great white population. I don't know why people still surf there.

8 unprovoked shark attacks in 2012? Time to cull the herd. Like it or not... Land, air and see we're the top of the food chain one way or another.

Maybe an open season for a couple weeks out of the year would end this trend. To make it fair, you can only use human shaped bait so we catch repeat offenders. Maybe we could send an open letter to the Mexican drug lords that keep dumping bodies at sea and ask them to stop so we're not considered a food source anymore.

I already hear you human hating animal lovers telling me we're in their environment. You're right. But there is a reason man eating, predatory animals were killed off in this country. Because it hurts when they bite you! Wolves are being reintroduced in many areas in the country and they're back at their wolfing ways eating livestock and posing a threat to human. They can't help it but they can't stop it either. Cull the herd.

At the very least open up a fishing season like they do for Grouper and let us get the population back in order. They say they are endangered, I say BS...
