Conditions have been good at Windham Mountain, NY for the past month. Limited terrain and spring like until this past weekend. Cold enough is right. Single Digits! Looks good for this weekend. Pow is great but can't beat a good surf day. $$$$$$$$$ getting expensive for a day too. Might as well enjoy the white stuff while we wait for warm weather and waves.
I hear you on the $$$. We've been going the "Night Club Card" route. For the price of ~4 or 5 night lift tickets, you get unlimited night tickets, starting the first week in January. As a bonus, you can start at 4 PM instead of 5!
For me, the closest mountains are 60-90 miles away, and the closest break is >120 miles, so when it gets cold, I shift sports for a while. I know, not the same, but it works for me.
This season has been pretty disappointing so far for me. I used to be fine just lapping the park no matter how bad the conditions but the last couple years I've kind of grown tired of riding the same park setup hitting the same rails and jumps. Last year there were some good days where we got dumped on and I could get my beard nice and frozen over but nothing really for me to get excited about so far this year.
I have a season pass and have only been out twice so far, this time last year I was probably over 10 days. Oh well, just gotta hope for some snow or maybe I'll head up north one of these weekends.
I skied from about 1978 through the 90s. When I was in college, I scheduled my classes on M,W,F and would ski on Tu, Th. Made a few trips out West for real skiing. Then came real world stuff, dropped off winter sports for a while, as my kids were very young. Once they got older, I started to learn snowboarding with my son, who is now 16.
Snowboarding has a steep, and rather painful learning curve, but worth the effort, IMO. Although, a few years ago, I busted out the old 195s and had a blast. Maybe someday I'll get that good at snowboarding.
