    Thumbs up wetsuit temperature guide

Guys, on the forecast pages, have a look at the new wetsuit temperature guide at the top of the page next to the water temperature. If you click on the wetsuit guide link, it will pop up a fun interactive tool, where you can move the temperature gauge and see the different recommended wetsuit gear.

I know in this forum, it gets asked all the time, about what wetsuit gear to wear. So, just a little little tool that will hopefully help some users out.

    sponsored by body glove?

nice... don't mind that it's sponsored at all. The more money this website brings in, the more resources they have to create better forecasts and content. Does this mean the trip to the surf expo has already paid for itself?

Although, it's not as detailed as I'd like, and it thinks I should bust out my 7mm boots when the water temp hits 49.

I agree, the more money and sponsorship the surfing community can bring into the sport the better. Im hoping to gain sponsorship at my local break by selling the space on the back of my wetsuit to the highest bidder. My car is also open to whatever company wants to pay me to slap a logo on the side of it.

And when something like a wetsuit guide is sponsored by a company that makes wetsuits you are sure to get unbiased information. This makes my life so much easier, rather than determine what I need to wear by experience and speaking to fellow surfers, I can now just let a company can just tell me...... SO SWEET!

Without paid advertisers on this free site, it would be a lot harder to run and manage the forums which provide free advertising to local shapers and shops. Should they not sell advertising here and just provide forecasts, videos, and forums as a labor of love? I think most people who will be using the feature should be able to realize a 5/4/3 from bodyglove is just as warm as one from ripcurl, hyperflex, xcel, etc and adjust accordingly.

We will probably make it more detailed as we go along... and make some tweaks like 7mm boots below 45 or something like that.

i guess i just find it mildly distasteful to have company logos (no matter which company it is) plastered all over the place. i find it pretty similar to the "best board for today" thing that's right next to it...& always some mass-produced, china-made pos.
as RID said, it takes the "trial & error" factor out of things. you know, god forbid we learn from our mistakes instead of having someone (or something) spoon-feed us everything!

Wow, dudes on here don't know how much rubber they need to wear and when. Wow........ Here's a guide to wetsuit coverage in New Jersey and surrounding states:

Summer - if the water is below 65 F you might want to wear some rubber. Temps below 65 you might want to put some type of a fullsuit on. A spring suit can get ya by from 62 F on up. Kelly Slater wears springsuits.

Fall - ahhh man it starts to get cold.. There's no lifegaurds and there's no "surfing area"....You should probably wait until next summer to go back out.

Winter...OHHH MY GOD IT IS FREEZING...........Build a fire and talk to your kids. You don't want to go out in that water......plus it's snowing outside, dude.

Spring - Dude, spring may arrive in March, but don't count on ditching that 5 mil until May. And just because it's 80 degrees inland don't count on the coast being the same. Weird things happen when the air temps rise and the water is still 44. Weird, strange things.......So, I would just wait until June. See above for Summer's guide. Hey any competing wetsuit manufacturers want to sponsor my guide of NJ wetsuit coverage.....I'm cheap, man.......

Oh, brave, noble dudes of yesteryear got by just fine with 5 mil boots......all winter long....GAWD that's all I hear now....7mm.....7mm......7mm boots.......It's like it's the cool thing to say it or something. 7mm should be used after the water drops south of 40 F.......the 30's man.......the 30's........
