Build artificial reefs up and down the coast. The surfing will be better, more spread out.
i'd say its pretty hypocritical to be stoked on surfing, and be dissapointed when others discover the excitement as well.
Think of the Hawaiians. They started this ish. We are all followers...
Not silly at all........
Had the torch not been passed to me, I would've never had the opportunity to experience the stoke! I hope one day to pass it to my kids and so on. Realistically, as the population grows among our planet, there will be more surfers and it'll continue to become more crowded out there. Either learn to play nice, be respectful and curteous to others, or get outta the water and go f--k yourself? Or, try snowboarding/skateboarding......whatever. Down with the Agro mofos in the water!!!!!!
At least not here. I can remember sitting elbow to elbow with people at the lighthouse 10 years ago. I surfed overhead 1st a month ago, glassy, with 2 other people. Nobody even came over the dune to check it....There's actually a contingency of us here that comment frequently on the lack of bodies in the water. It's getting less crowded! I think a lot of that "funboard" generation that jolted the popularity of surfing in the late 90's onward, has given up and moved on because of its difficulty and/or inconvenience. In a time with instant surf reports and forecasts, thousands of fly by night surf schools, and price point overseas boards flooding surf shops - - - I think it's unavoidably interesting that there's less people surfing in my area.
If others enjoying the stoke upsets you, you could always stand up from your speed bump (read as boogie board) take off your fins walk to the parking lot turn and wave good-by, then drive off to the woods and find your own place to be alone![]()
Maybe before everyone had access to the countless websites that forecast swells 5 or more days out, people drove all the way to OBX because they knew it was more consistent. I know i did.
In the delmarva the funboard / longboard trend of the mid-late 90's has just continued to grow. I think the progression in wetsuits and explosion of surf forecasting websites/cams has contributed a lot . Summers were always crowded but now the "crowded" season goes from about April through December at the popular spots. There were at least 30- 40 people out at indian river yesterday when it was as good or better all up and down the beach. I agree that its silly to hate on the new generation of surfers...they have as much right to be in the lineup as anyone no matter how long they've been surfing.
Waah. This is my spot.
Waah. There are other people, all of them on different kinds of boards.
Waah. I don't like it.
Oh, yay. Another sanctimonious poop bag in the water. What is it about surfing that makes some people so happy and super-stoked and other people so angry and self-righteous????
I don't get it.
