    Atlantic City contruction?

Does anyone know the how long construction is going to be going on at the AC spots? I went to check Tennessee Ave yesterday and was so upset that they had closed off the beach. They already ruined metros and all the northern spots. Also any educated guesses at the short and long term affects of the sand pumping?

    Thanks!

I can't believe they are putting a sea wall at metros, they've killed every break from states to crystals. Those were like my 4 favorite blocks to surf bc it was never crowded, no currents, and was always working at one of them. I saw lost across America volume 2 yesterday and it reminded me how good states used to break before they took out the end of the garden pier... Going to be interesting what happens to crystals and the beach in front of revel w that sea wall at metros but probably nothing beneficial surf wise. No idea when they are d9ne w Tennessee they were doing replenishment at the other blocks for almost like a week a block I think

Man, I know it sucks. Seriously that is one of the best places to surf in NJ. I really hope it doesn't affect it long-term cause AC def didn't need another sh#tty casino.

Maybe (fingers crossed) that seawall will be beneficial to the breaks.... Do you know how long construction is gonna be going on for it?

Atlantic City construction: Unfortunately for the near term, the beaches will be closed from the Vermont Ave groin to the Garden Pier until late June. Thereafter, the beach will be closed from the Vermont Ave. groin to the Massachusetts Ave groin (essentially all of Metros beach) until September, but Revel Beach will be open by then.
It is not a seawall, it is a rock breakwater...which will NOT be at Metros beach but will be between the Mass. Ave groin and the Garden Pier.
Essentially the project consists of: extending the Vermont Ave groin, extending the Mass Ave groin, building a wooden groin next to and parallel to the Garden Pier and connecting the Mass Ave groin and the wooden groin with the rock breakwater.

The beachfill stuff should be done in AC before June and in Ventnor before July..

Hey thanks for the info Lumpy. Are you going by word-of-mouth or is there a website that says the projected schedule?

If no site, do you know the rough schedule for the beaches south of Garden Pier and if they are going to be keeping them closed til June as well?

I'm interested to see what this breakwater ends up looking like. You gotta love these sand pumping projects: sand gets pumped in to AC and Ventnor. Within a few weeks/months/years, it ends up down in Margate and Longport (bigger beaches without needing to pump down our way) and in the Great Egg Harbor Inlet and intracoastal where it then gets dredged. It's craziness, but where would the island be now without it?

My hope is that the ocean will do its scouring job on the north end of the island and things will return to "normal" (given that those beaches are about as unnatural as it gets) during this tropical storm season (just hoping here... I have no qualifications to make a judgement on the matter).

it's a small point, but New Hampshire Ave is crystal, not crystals...

The beach from Garden Pier to Steel Pier (and halfway to Central Pier) is open. You just need to stay 200 to 300 feet away from the work crews fixing that outfall at NJ Ave. They will be fixing the outfall north of the Steel Pier next week-ish....need to stay 200 to 300 feet away from the work crews fixing that outfall too.

And the beachfill area is usually closed 500 to 700 feet on either side of the pumping operation. Crossovers will be closed sporadically, as they will be reconstructing and installing fence in the near future but that usually takes 2 days each and 2 or 3 in a row should never be closed at one time, that way access to beaches without heavy construction is not hindered...

By a fairly informed word of mouth...
