Ironically, if I drop in on you, it's because you saw me paddle for it, knew you were faster than me, snaked around the back side of me, so that you could "claim" position, then looked at me dirty when I popped up anyway. Just because it took me 20 seconds of paddling to get on that wave, doesn't mean you have the right to use your ability to snake the peak me from behind.

Anyway, back to her.....if I was there I'd say something to her.....kook and all I'd let her know. O' maybe that's what you actually need, get a hot chic to say something to her.
rockaway has a good stretch of sandbar breaks, "uptown to downtown".. but some of the best breaks are downtown. unfortunately downtown is kook central. I mean Kook central. all these kooks from brooklyn and manhattan that read about surfing in that useless rag the nytimes decide that "hey, lets give surfing a try" and the better breaks are packed with brand new kooks everytime there is surf. and so trying to police the lineup is sort of like trying to put a forest fire out with a cup of water.... as a result I very rarely surf downtown.

Got ya......here if it's too crowded (the pier) you can just go down the beach.....maybe the break isn't as "nice" as pier side, but having room to learn, grow, and surf without drama is priceless!

hey dirty mama the 'hot' comment was a joke. i should also be clear that this particular lady is a more of a long time local than me. her being a woman really doesn't have much to do with it other than me not wanting to be seen yelling at a girl and her never having to worry about getting her azz kicked for dropping in on people. in fact, there's an old dude who does the same crap though he's more of a snaker.

i respect locals and the pecking order of a lineup, though it can be sorta pointless at a break like the rockaways where it can get very crowded with newer surfers and people who don't live there. i usually look for an uncrowded spot even if its less good on smaller days just to avoid bs like this but when summer comes it's pretty much inescapable. above all i don't want to get mad and ruin my day..

btw, dirty mama- i grew up surfing st. augustine a long, long time ago. good times

Right on brother....sorry to miss understand, typing has no tone I get what your saying. And just so you know, I'd never "fight" someone for dropping in on me either, local or newbie.....why do that when you can just sing them away from you

St. Augie is still a good place to be too.......maybe not the best waves, that's NSB, but WAAAAAY less crowded and much more peaceful. Me love it long time!
