id rather do it in the winter...too many fish in the summer
last summer went out with 2 friends at 3am, barely any moonlight. to make it 30 million times more sketch, while rushing i tried to cut a leash rope with a knife and slit my finger open, bleeding everywhere. put ducttape over it and it fell off the second i hit the water. still bleeding. while sitting there not being able to see anything, i felt something rush by my foot (it was probably my imagination but still scare the **** out of me) and took a wave in. id do it at 10pm, but 3am was weird
When I was younger I used to sneak out of my parents house to go surfing with friends in the middle of the night. We would surf for hours reading the reflection of lights on the water from the pier. Going to school the next day was rough but worth it. I remember being so tired that every time I closed my eyes I could still see the waves breaking.
Surfing at night hasn't crossed my mind in years. It sounds like a good idea. I will have to put my wetsuit on and
run down to the beach like ninja for old time sake.
Has been many years since doing it but it was always a blast to get a decent moonlight session in. If you have to wait some time in between sets it can be a little spooky especially if alone but if its pumpin you dont really think about it.
I haven't had the chance to surf by full moon with waves yet......FLA is very hit and miss. But I was once out until 9:30, by myself, in Ormand Beach. The hotel gave me just enough light to see the wave 4 feet away from me.......it was tiny and glassy.....I got out when I hit something very solid with my hand as I paddled.
Hitting something solid in the water is spooky.....it happened once in the daytime at Flagler Pier, but I can tell you it was 100 times spookier that night in Ormand.
Got out around 9:30-10:15 several times in AC back in the day. Casino lights, Steel Pier in full affect, some moonlight. We weren't the last guys out of the water either.
I wonder how much it would be to make/buy a floating orb like they have in the night time Red Bull contests??
