Everyone is all worried about liability and being sued... grow a pair. This makes me sick.

If you are strong enough to snap a board in pieces why are you crying about a stray board running into you? "Ill sue your pants off if you damage my property" Did I get it right that time?
Nope, you didnt get it right. if you cause damage while not using a widely available and used safety product you'll be at fault. I dont really pay anymind to the legal aspect of this debate. Unless your board took someone's eye out or knocked someone out then its a situation that should be solved on the beach.
Im only speaking to point of impact moment.
I suppose if you're on an isolated break, then do whatever. but if you're in a crowded spot you have to take responsibility for you and the people around you.

I mean, lets not make it a law to wear a life jacket, swimmies and ear plugs here. Following that logic, we are all required to surf softtops.

I'll meet you in middle. Fine, if you surf crowded spots, I recommend wearing a leash.

I don't, so I'm going to ignore my own advice.

I don't think you should paddle out without a leash unless you're pro. I don't care how good you think you surf, sometimes the situation is outa ur hands. The water doesn't revolve around you. Be smart. Don't be selfish. Slap a leash on and keep everyone else's board and head ding free.

Kiddies on the inside? LEASH, no matter what.[/QUOTE]

    +1

Perhaps it's cliche', but no one (I assume) wants to see any kids get hurt.

When it comes to kids in the shorebreak I'll leash it. My kids are learning leashless (down the beach away from the crowds) because I want them to respect every aspect of surfing, including hanging onto your board when you fall and swimming in after it giving them time to reflect why they're swimming after their board. *They will be stronger surfers for it in the long run, and probably out paddle most of the males in the lineup in the process.* Except for me. They go to their room if they snake me, we've already set the ground rules. Leashes have their place in surfing, but they should'nt be used as a crutch or a way to bypass the cardinal rules of lineup etiquite. Don't get in the way of another surfer's line unless you have absolutely no choice and learn how to hold onto your board. Learn these things before you take your surfing to the next level... It's a shame that most of the people learning to surf in the last 10 years have bypassed the basics and taken the easy way out.

Even with your heels... when you're pulling in so hard you get that hamstring cramp so bad you feel it in your ba11s.

I'd like to see someone hold on to their board when they get clipped in a head high + barrel. I think I would even pay money....

O-M-G! Did you just say that?.......Brahahahahahaha!

It is funny that in the "surfing world" a short board equals a bigger member. O' it's NOT true but still funny.
