Happy Birthday Nobody Owes You Anything Thread
I gotta chime in here... Some may find me in the wrong, some may side with me...
I recently went for a surf.. realized when I got there I had forgot my leash... Only reason being that my last session, my leash broke, and I forgot to put another one on. I get to the beach and realize I forgot it, but F that, I'm not going back home or missing this session. It was only about waist high or so. There are like 3 guys out at this particular spot and it has a kinda small take off zone.
We are all trading waves and I'm hooting for the other dudes as they go by when i'm paddling back out and stuff. No one has anything to say about me not having a leash. I am a very competent surfer and have what I think are very good morals and feel for the rules of the line up. Two younger than me locals who think they own this spot are out. They are kinda douchy but I pay no attention. One of the kids will take off on any and all waves just so others cant have them. To this I don't care much. He claims I dropped in on him, and I pay no attention. Then on my way back out to the line up after a wave, the kids buddy on a finless log comes cruising down the line and decides to do a wave face 360 and falls directly in front of me. I go for the duck dive but realize theres no way im getting under this ***. I ditch and swim down. My board ends up about 5 feet from me.. Exactly where it would have been even if I had a leash. The kid comes up and is all agro, like dude you have no leash and you ditched your board. His own board hit him in the head and cut him... Then he claims it was my board, because his finless board couldn't possible have cut his head. Then tells me I was paddling out wrong heading for the shoulder, and that I should have gone for the white water. When in reality if he didn't decide to do his dumb 360 he would have gone right by and I would have ducked the white water. They proceed to tell me this is my first time surfing here... (not true in the least) That I dropped in on his buddy five times already(also not true) and that I can barely pump down the line. (also very far from the truth). I reply yes, this is my first surf and I have never been here and keep surfing.
Yes, I should have had a leash.. Would it have made a difference, no. Would this *** still have fallen in front of me and had his own board hit him in the head, yes. This kid pissed me off, but I didn't let him see it. And the worst part is that everyone knows these kids and their dad who also thinks he is some very entitled ****er. so some guy paddles up to me after and goes, I don't care whether you are right or wrong, but you know who those kids are, right? I know who they are, but do not care. The only reason it bothers me is because I just don't want to be looked down on by the other surfers out there, because of some asshole kid who knows more people than me's story. I put in a **** load of time in the water, not just at this spot but all spots. That **** aint cool.
How should I feel about this one?
I don't understand that part where you tell us about the kids dad's being somebodies.... what does that mean? are the dads the town police chief? are they local tuff guys/mobsters?
why is that an issue?
You may not want to hear this, but the rant you just posted is pretty much the reason the phrase NOYA was invented...at least thats my guess.
sh!t happens, and sorting out all of the details is too much work, especially since you didnt even put forth the the effort of using paragraphs.
The part about "The only reason it bothers me is because I just don't want to be looked down on by the other surfers out there" isnt encouraging.
