I have a relative that is transferring (job related) to either St Thomas or St Croix shortly. I know nothing about the area, but plan on visiting. I'd like advice on the following:

1) which island would you recommend, and why.
2) best time of year to surf.
3) which spots to avoid and why.
4) any other relevant tidbits.
